What is the best Men's slim wallet on the market today?
In my hands is the best slim wallet for men on the market today...
This wallet has been my daily driver for the last 6 months.
And I’ll tell you the name of this wallet in just a minute.
But first, I’m going to show you the 2nd and 3rd best slim wallets on the market, and give you specific reasons why these wallets are inferior to this mystery wallet.
The first wallet we’ll look at is a metal minimalist wallet.
What makes this type of wallet one of the best is its sheer thinness.
Metal minimalist wallets are the thinnest wallets you can find.
But there are 2 design flaws that keep it far from being the best on the market.
Here I have a wallet called the ROCO.
It gives you incredibly quick access to your 2 most used cards. In under 2 seconds you can have your credit card out and ready to hand to the cashier.
But accessing the rest of your cards isn’t very intuitive. You have to make the cards fan out like a rolodex.
And if you do it wrong you might just spill the cards out onto the floor.
But the major flaw, is its metal body.
Although the metal allows it to be extremely thin and durable, it’s abrasive and scrapes the cards every time you take them in and out.
The photo above shows the type of damage a metal minimalist wallet can do to your cards.
The scratches you see here are from only 3 weeks of use. Had I kept using these metal wallets for much longer, the cards might have been ruined.
The second wallet we’ll talk about is a plastic minimalist wallet.
The main benefit being that is much less abrasive on credit cards than the metal wallet we just looked at.
I did an experiment between the ROCO and a plastic wallet called the Radix One to see how much more abrasive the metal wallet is compared to the plastic.
For the experiment, I spray painted cards with black paint, and slid them back and forth 50 times in each wallet.
The plastic wallet was measurably less abrasive. So it solves that problem.
But the Radix One uses the same mechanism for accessing the middle cards as does the ROCO.
You have to pull the cards out halfway, then pinch the plates together to make the cards fan out.
It works, but it’s not ideal. It takes practice, and there’s always a slight fear when I do it that the cards are going to pop out and I’m going to have to pick them up off the floor.
So what does it take to be the best slim wallet on the market today?
Clearly slimness is important, but as we saw with the previous two wallets, slimness isn’t everything.
If we valued slimness alone, we’d pick the metal wallet hands down.
So what sets this wallet apart from the rest?
Why has this one been my daily driver for the last 6 months?
What sets this wallet apart is its usability.
A slim wallet should make it easy to access all of your cards quickly. Not just a couple of them.
And it should work well for cash too.
And this wallet does all of that.
